SMA's inaugural Brass Day - Some Reflections

A few weeks have passed since our first ever Brass Day was held at Sheffield Music Academy. The day saw 24 keen young brass musicians take part in warm up activities, group playing, solo playing and performing in an informal concert. We were delighted to be joined by a strong team of brass teachers, as well as our own resident brass team, Mark Cadman and Simon Twigge. We would like to thank Simon Hogg and Chris Barron for joining us on this day and running workshops for the young musicians.

We split the students into a junior and senior group, and both performed in the weekly lunchtime concert held at the Academy. The junior group worked through small chamber pieces such as 'Mini March', which went down a storm with the audience. The senior group worked on a selection of pieces including the Trumpet Voluntary, which was also a popular work with the audience. Both of the groups worked hard throughout the day, and the brass concert was a raging success - well done all!

We have already announced the date of our second Brass Day at the Sheffield Music Academy, which will be on Saturday 19th January 2019. We will be joined by a tour de force brass team, which will include some familiar faces, as well as two members from The Hallé brass section. If you would like to secure a place for this event please email: alex@sheffieldmusicacademy.co.uk for more information.
