Bass Day

Sheffield Music Academy would like to welcome you to an inspiring day of music-making at our upcoming Bass Day on Sunday, 19th April. Designed for players aged 8–18 of all abilities, as well as complete beginners who are curious about taking up the double bass, this is a unique opportunity to develop your skills in a supportive and engaging environment.

Led by expert tutors Saulo and Filipe, the day will focus on technique, musicianship, and ensemble playing, with the chance for more experienced players to explore excerpts from prepared pieces. Whether you're just starting out or already an experienced player, there’s something here to challenge and inspire you.

Saulo Martins – Double Bass

Since arriving in the UK, Saulo has made a huge impression and

has been in high demand as both a performer and teacher.

He has worked with leading orchestras, such as the

BBC Philharmonic and Royal Philharmonic, and teaches bass

at Sheffield Music Academy, where his students have secured

top conservatory scholarships. Originally an electric bassist, Saulo

soon discovered his passion for the double bass and, unexpectedly,

a talent for rap.

Filipe Dandalo - Double Bass

Filipe’s journey from playing in a community music program in

Osasco, Brazil, to Europe’s leading conservatoires has shaped

his inspiring approach to teaching. An ABRSM Scholar at RNCM

in Manchester, he later completed two master's degrees

in Europe. A former European Youth Orchestra member,

he has performed widely, including as a soloist with the

Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, and recently joined the

Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
