Talented Students perform at Tramlines Festival

Academy student Roisin Meleady-White wowed audiences with her performance on the Young Musicians stage on ‘The Moor’, Sheffield city centre.

She performed a selection of songs including ‘Ain’t no Sunshine’ which, to the amusement of those watching, prompted the sun to break through the clouds.

Tramlines festival is a city centre festival in its 7th year of running. This year it had more than 70 host venues and attracted 150, 000 people over the three day weekend. The festival has been hailed as a success despite a certain dampness in the air and a last minute cancellation from the Wu Tang Clang.

Popular acts this year included Basement Jaxx, De la Soul, The Charlatans and Billy Bragg.

Academy graduate and previous student ambassador, Jenny Whittaker, also gave an impressive performance at Tramlines Festival as part of Albion Choir.

Albion is a small yet highly regarded choir of 14 members which specialises in original arrangements of songs from the U.K. and Ireland including Folk songs and Sacred works.

The choir gave a radio broadcast performance at Tramlines with SoFar sounds and have been previously heard on the waves of other local stations as well as BBC Radio 3. They performed at the English Music Festival in May, a repeat of which is to take place this September.

Last week Albion Choir sang at the Buxton Fringe Festival, winning an award for best vocal performance of the festival. They are in the process of recording their third album within which our talented student Jenny will be performing solos.

A great asset to the Sheffield Music Academy, Jenny Whittaker has an unconditional offer to study music at the University of York.
