On the evening of Saturday December 10th, students and staff of The Sheffield Music Academy presented a varied and lively musical programme to a packed house of parents and friends at St. Andrews Church, Psalter Lane.
It was great to see both junior and senior academy musicians present a varied programme of music that really celebrated the breadth of musical excellence that The Sheffield Music Academy represents.
Highlights included items from the Junior choir – singing in parts with good tone and intonation – the senior string ensemble – treating the audience to an electrifying and moving performance of Shostakovich’s eighth String Quartet – and the senior orchestras lively rendition of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony. In addition, the senior choir helped lead us towards Christmas with renditions of two carols, and a variety of senior and junior ensembles and soloists contributed to a varied concert that really was a Christmas feast of music making of the highest standard.
Our thanks must go out to the staff and students of The Sheffield Music Academy who continue share concerts with us that present the very best that young music making has to offer in and around the Sheffield area.
