Beth Davis

Beth grew up in a musical family and chose ‘cello to be her first instrument at the age of 6. After joining a local music school, Beth was soon drawn to the uniqueness of the bassoon and in 2008 gained a place to study both instruments at Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she was awarded the Fox UK Bassoon Scholarship and The Woodwind Instrument Prize in her final year. She won a full scholarship to study bassoon at the Royal Northern College of Music, where she graduated with First Class Honours in 2017. Beth was awarded the Martin Hardy Prize in her first year, and was supported by the John Fewkes (Leicestershire) Instrumentalist Scholarship throughout her studies.

 

Beth has worked with orchestras such as the Hallé, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in many prestigious venues across Europe as well as making professional orchestral recordings in a wide range of genres. She has performed under many prominent conductors such as Sir Mark Elder, Daniel Harding, Mark Shanahan and En Shao. Beth particularly enjoys chamber music, and in 2016 won the June Emerson Launchpad prize with her quintet, North Winds.  

 

Beth now enjoys a varied portfolio career comprising of teaching, music librarianship, reed-making and performing with orchestras across the North West.
