Tierney Kirby
Theory & Aural
Since graduating from the University of Sheffield with a BMus undergraduate and an MMus Master’s degree in Music (2013 and 2015 respectively), and from Sheffield Hallam University with a PgCE, Tierney has been active in the musical teaching and performance spheres in Sheffield. Born in Sheffield and at age 6, she started learning to play the piano, as well as a little guitar and clarinet, then moved to the saxophone, performing in soul, jazz, orchestral and big bands. She also started her interest in music education, teaching from the age of 16. Presently she has successfully submitted and coached to achieve over 100 ABRSM exam certificates with private students.

Whilst at university, Tierney developed her composition and performance studies in her undergraduate degree, choosing to specialise in these areas for her MMus master’s degree. Her master’s degree performance included soprano, alto and tenor saxophones.

She also established an interest in arts enterprise and administration, for which she won the Richard Toeman Scholarship Award, which took her to the City of London to work in top music publisher Imagem UK, the parent company for Boosey and Hawkes. There, she expanded her interest in arts administration, licensing, promotion, royalties, enterprise, production and recording amongst others.

Today, Tierney is focussed on continuing her many enjoyable years of teaching privately and at Sheffield Music Academy, as well as rehearsing, recording, performing and attending concerts.
