Helen Fairer
Piano
Helen has lots of performing and teaching experience, having taught higher education students at the Royal Northern College of Music, as well as primary and secondary school aged children at the RNCM Junior department, and younger children at home. At 14, Helen won the National Mozart Competition and came 3rd in Young Pianist of the Year at St. Mary’s Music School. There, she had her first experiences of playing concertos with orchestras, which was both great fun and a significant great learning curve.
As a postgraduate student at the RNCM – studying with Renna Kellaway – Helen performed at some well-known venues, such as Bridgewater Hall; Manchester, Philharmonic Hall; Liverpool, and St. Martin-in-the-Fields; London. She performed Beethoven’s fourth piano concerto with the RNCM Symphony Orchestra and Berg’s concerto for piano and violin. She has equally enjoyed giving recitals at some of the humbler music clubs around the country, believing it is an honour and privilege to share music and meet people from all walks of life.
Helen also teaches at Stretford High School, Manchester, which also brings a wealth of joy and challenges. She hopes in her teaching to inspire children to believe in themselves and help them in their learning; it is a privilege to be alongside another on their journey of discovery, progress and achievement.
