at Sheffield Music Academy

Sunday 10 July

On Sunday 10th July our second concert of the weekend took place in Heeley Hall at Birkdale, with glorious sun and even more glorious music! Split into two halves with a BBQ in the middle, the concert saw our junior and senior students take the stage with ensemble and solo items. The BBQ in the middle went down a treat as well - huge thanks to the parents who volunteered to bring their grills, make salads and cakes, and serve over 200 burgers!

Thank you everyone for bearing with the unbearable heat in Heeley Hall, and for all your hard-work and excellent playing - what a weekend!

5pm - First performance, featuring our younger students

Junior Choir, Junior Strings, Guitar Ensemble

6pm - BBQ kindly organised by the Friends of SMA

7pm - Second performance, featuring our older students

Intermediate Strings, Senior Strings, Cello Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra

Pictures to follow.

Saturday 9 July

On Saturday 9th July Sheffield Music Academy took to Victoria Hall in the City Centre for a Sound of Music spectacular concert. Ensembles such as Guitar Ensemble and Brass Ensemble were joined by solo and chamber items from final year students who are graduating from the Academy this year, including a stunning performance of Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A major.

The evening concluded with an encore of The Sound of Music, accompanied by an enthusiastic singalong from members of the audience. It certainly offered some relief for us to have the catchy tunes playing in our heads during the football traffic that night!

On Saturday 25th June, Sheffield Music Academy was delighted to present two Brahms String Sextets in a special performance of Academy staff and guests Robin Ireland (former violist with the Lindsay String Quartet) and Adrian Bradbury. The Sextets were well received and sounded beautiful backlit by the warm evening glow from the church's stained glass windows.
