Martin Cropper has been the Music Director of SMA since xxxx. He is passionate about chamber music and has been fortunate to study and perform with some of the world’s most inspiring chamber musicians.
Martin shares his energy and enthusiasm for music between Sheffield Music Academy and Oakham School, where he is now in his xth year as Head of Strings. Martin also has over 20 years of experience working with the City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra and regularly gives workshops for Music in the Round.

Our Office Team
Our core team of administrative staff are the small, powerful motor behind Sheffield Music Academy, ensuring that it runs efficiently and flawlessly. Based in our Psalter Lane offices, they deal with all aspects of the academy, from parent enquiries and timetabling to safeguarding and concert organisation.

In our accordance with our Conflicts of Interest Policy, each trustee made a full written disclosure of interests when they were appointed, covering their relationships, and other posts held, that could potentially result in a conflict of interest. This written disclosure is kept in the Academy’s Register of Interests and is updated at least annually, and whenever a new potential conflict arises.

Broadcast Journalist
Trisha Cooper
Trisha Cooper is an experienced broadcast journalist and has spent 20 years working for the BBC both nationally and locally. Working closely with The Halle and the BBC Philharmonic, Trisha is proud to support young people and education programmes and is Chair of the Sheffield Music Academy.

Cultural Producer
Sara Unwin
Sara is the Head of Cultural Engagement at the University of Sheffield based in the City, Culture & Public Engagement team. In previous roles Sara was Programme Manager at The Bridgewater Hall feeding a deep love of live music experiences and a passion for bringing artists and audiences together.

Project Management
John Payne
John has always been passionate about classical music. He enjoys going to concerts at the City Hall and Crucible but travels far and wide to see new productions of operas he is keen on, particularly the operas of Richard Wagner. He is currently Chair of the Manchester Wagner Society.

Trisha Cooper
Trisha Cooper is an experienced broadcast journalist and has spent 20 years working for the BBC both nationally and locally.
Born in Manchester, she learnt piano and violin and studied modern languages at Salford. She worked as a translator before joining the BBC in Manchester and London where she produced highly rated network programmes for the Sport and Outside Broadcasts departments and for Radios 2 and 4.
Moving to News, Trisha spent two years as News Editor of a radio station in Northern Italy before returning to UK. She spent 10 years presenting programmes for BBC local radio and now works all over Yorkshire, covering the arts, news, current affairs and magazine programmes. She is proud to be part of a production team which won gold and silver awards at the 2012 BBC Gillard awards. Trisha appears regularly ‘In Conversation’ before and after performances at the Sheffield International Concert Season, Music In The Round and Danceworks UK, the ‘Off The Shelf’ Literature Festival, and the Children’s Book Awards.
Working closely with The Halle and the BBC Philharmonic, Trisha is proud to support young people and education programmes and is Chair of the Sheffield Music Academy. She programmed the ‘five40five’ contemporary music season in Sheffield and works closely with the Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus. In 2012 Trisha supported musicians in West Yorkshire in building a Big Band from scratch with jazz singer Clare Teal, and she was delighted to present the Halle Carol Concerts at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester with conductor Peter Stark.
