Henrietta Hill

SMA Student Sept 2006-July 2011

Violist Henrietta Hill graduated from Cambridge (Robinson College) last summer, with a BA in Biological Natural sciences. Since then she has been studying a Masters in Performance at the Guild Hall School and has been awarded a Distinction for her first year.

On 5th July, members of Guildhall Symphony Orchestra joined with the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, to perform Walton’s Symphony No1 in B-flat minor in the Barbican. This was an electrifying performance which Henri thoroughly enjoyed.

Henrietta is listed as ‘Artistic  Director’ of the 2nd  Festival of Young Musicians, which is hosted by Humphrey Burton. C.B.E., July 4th – 11th 2015, Gensac, Aquitaine, France.  On 6th July Henri left for France, where she is taking part in the Orpheus and Bacchus chamber music festival.

Henry was invited to attend the Academy by Director John Grundy, in the year that it opened (2006).
She was recommended as a Viola player by Robin Ireland, the Viola player of the internationally renowned Lindsey Quartet. Find out more about the Lindsay Quartet: The Lindsay Quartet.

After helping out with Chamber groups at the SMA for a year Henri joined the Academy as a full time student in September 2007. In September 2009 Henri was among The Academy’s first batch of students to follow an AS-level music course. She followed this through to take A-level Music in June 2011, gaining an A*, as did fellow student David Barnes.

Emily Baycroft

SMA Student Sept 2009-June 2014

Talented singer Emily Baycroft was awarded a choral scholarship for the choir of Selwyn College Cambridge.

Since taking up her place there last year she has recorded a CD of alternative arrangements of Christmas music with the choir (due to be released soon).

Emily has sung evensong in cathedrals including St Paul’s, Ely and Norwich. She has also performed in concerts, including the premier of works by up and coming composers, in a large number of prestigious venues including King’s College Chapel (Cambridge), London, and Kent, and been on tour to the Pacific Northwest, singing in Seattle, Sequim, Victoria and Vancouver.

Our congratulations to them all for their hard work and well deserved achievements.

Best wishes for the future!
